New Twitter Tip for You

OK here we go!  Today, Facebook dips its social-media chocolate into Microsoft Bing’s peanut butter, introducing a “social search” engine where Facebook friends and their “likes” are factored into search results.   Facebook and Bing are teaming up for Social Search.

How about you? Are you standing still?  Or are you looking and moving forward?  http://lnkd.in/q6uwge

So much of the conversation about social media in the enterprise is about technology.  The real story is about sociology anthropology.   Its hard to get social media functioning in some companies because of cultural obstacles.

Facebook recently passed the 500 million members mark.  The movie about the start of the social media giant will be in theaters this weekend.

Mark Zuckerberg is only 26 years old and he is already a billionaire.   It didn’t take very long, as Facebook has only been around since

Are You on Facebook Yet?

Facebook has become a very popular way for people to interact with one another on the Internet.  In fact, Facebook has in many ways replaced some of the traditional means of Internet communication.  For example, many people now use Facebook’s messaging system much more often than they use their traditional email accounts.

Lots of people log into Facebook every single day, so if their friends are already Facebook members, it’s easier to send messages from within Facebook than to go to another web service like Yahoo mail or Google mail just to send a quick message. Most people also like to maintain only a single contact list or address book, and since Facebook does this for them automatically, it becomes very easy to send messages directly from Facebook.

How to Use Facebook

You can use Facebook messages to strengthen the relationships you have with your customers.  For example, by offering your customers the option of contacting you on Facebook for customer service issues or questions they may have, you do so in an environment that they are already comfortable in, and spend lots of time using Facebook.

Many people feel like their traditional email inboxes have simply become a source of spam and unwanted email, and that attitude can sometimes affect how they view the people who are sending them email.

Online Meets Offline

I love reading USA Today as it brings the latest information to me while traveling.   A recent headline caught my eye because it is a marriage of offline and online businesses coming together.   The headline said “Target to sell Facebook Gift Cards.”

I thought of the many business owners who say they are not interested in social media as it’s a waste of time.   I am reminded of how adamant they are when I share the benefits of using Social Media Marketing for their business.

How it works

Starting Sunday, Facebook gift cards will be available in values of $15, $25 and $50 at all of Target’s 1,750 retail stores and at Target.com.  Two or three more national retailers will start selling the cards in coming months.

Here’s the thing, it will look and work just like Apple’s iTunes cards which many people are already using.  This makes it easy for the consumer to adapt to and allows it to integrate seamlessly into the  way we do business with Target.

The business reason

According to the article “By year’s end, Facebook expects to have gift card credits available for its thousands of games. At least 19 games on Facebook have more than 10 million active users a month.

Facebook is expected to rake in an estimated $1.3 billion in online advertising revenue worldwide this year, up 92% from 2009, eMarketer says.”

Hmm, sounds like a good idea to me.  How about you?
